Specializing in tool and die work and metal stamping, Wilkie developed the Continental Process in 1929, a process for stamping parts out of metal faster and at less cost than any other method at the time. In 1933, Wilkie invented the metal cutting band saw, ushering in a new era in machine tool making. Dubbed the “DoALL” for its wide variety of applications, Wilkie introduced the contour band saw in 1935. The DOALL line quickly expanded to include saw blades, precision grinders, cutting fluids and more. In 1949, the company introduced the first band sawing machines with hydraulically powered worktables. By 1962, the number of hydraulic components integrated into the Continental products was high enough for the company to design and manufacture their own components to their own demanding specifications. This new division was called, oddly enough, Continental Hydraulics. Over the years, customers recognized the quality and durability of the hydraulic components in Continental products and spread the word throughout the industry. Recognizing an opportunity for expansion, Continental Hydraulics began selling hydraulic component products through distribution in 1962. Today, Continental Hydraulics products are used in some of the most hostile environments imaginable and their reputation for superior durability and performance continues to grow.
