This new company,......In 1976, five entrepreneurs left Teledyne Electro-Mechanism, a flexible circuit manufacturing company, and started their own company specializing in the new process of Sculptured® Flexible Circuits. This new company, Advanced Circuit Technology, Inc., (ACT) led by Joseph Roberts, the inventor of Sculptured® Flexible Circuits, began manufacturing this revolutionary product in Merrimack, N.H. Due to the large demand for Sculptured® circuits, ACT had to move to a larger facility in Nashua, NH where they currently occupy two buildings with over 75,000 square feet of manufacturing space. Sculptured® Flexible Circuits (SFCs) were developed by ACT as a solution to increased problems of reliability and the added assembly costs which package/design engineers are faced with in every application. Design and packaging engineers who have specified Sculptured® circuits agree with ACTs logic that it is economically justifiable to incur a higher percent of direct material when the increase is responsible for reducing the cost of purchasing additional hardware and the direct labor necessary to install them. In other words, the overall installed cost is much lower. ACTs products are used by approximately 450 companies spanning the breadth of the electronics industry from consumer goods to aerospace.
