Known for power, precision, ease-of-use, and cost effectiveness, we back our products with a staff dedicated to advanced motion control technology and development. Dedication to Motion Control Technology We are committed to remaining the world leader in motion control technology development. Our reputation for proven expertise, sustained and rapid growth, and global leadership across many markets has evolved through our extensive experience and capabilities that maximize time-to-market and customer satisfaction. As motion control design and requirements change, PMD continues to invest in its technology and people. Each generation of motion processors delivers a more extensive instruction set, faster communication speeds and greater functionality. The corporate commitment to innovation, unparalleled motion system support, and ISO 9000 manufacturing keeps current and future generations of PMD products on the cutting edge of motion system design. OUR HISTORY Company History - Over 15 Years of Motion Control Engineered Products In 1992 entrepreneur and industry expert, Chuck Lewin, developed a powerful concept advanced motion control on an IC. This motion control technology became the foundation of Performance Motion Devices. In less than a year, the first commercial multi-axis motion processor was released. This breakthrough product paired the advantages of IC packaging with sophisticated functions previously only available in board level motion control products. 1993 - First High-Volume Chip Design Soon after, in 1993, PMD made its first high-volume design win to a national textile manufacturer. PMDs sales continued to grow globally. In 1995 a European ceramic tile firm began purchasing PMDs motion processors in high volume. These sales set the stage for steady growth throughout the decade. 1999 - Second Generation Chip Products In 1999, the Navigator Family was launched- the second generation of motion processors and boards. The following year PMD introduced The Pilot Family- a low cost single-axis, motion control IC. 2003 - Magellan® Motion Processor In 2003, PMD launched its most advanced family of motion processors to date - The Magellan Family, providing faster and smoother motion. These multi-axis chips and boards also provide advanced features such as network communications and multi-motor support. 2005 - Prodigy® Motion Cards PMD Starts offering the Prodigy line of PCI/PC104 cards, designed with PMDs advanced Magellan® Motion Processor. Programmed in C/C++ or Visual Basic language, these cards utilize high density logic circuitry to provide cost-effective, advanced motion control functions. 2006 - ION® Digital Drives The ION Digital Drive was released in 2006, expanding PMDs product offerings to include highly advanced motion control modules. Based on the powerful Magellan® chip, this compact, fully enclosed module provides high-performance motion control, network connectivity and power amplification up to 500W for DC brush, brushless DC or step motors. 2008 - PMD Expands Operations PMD opens a west coast U.S. office to support a broader regional customer base in the US and Asia, and launches the ION 3000, the second in the ION Digital Drive family of products. All of our products are supported by Pro-Motion®, PMDs Windows GUI software, and C-Motion®, an API C-source code library. Located in the technology belt of Massachusetts, PMD is privately held and has consecutively maintained profitability since opening in 1992.
