As early as in 1928 the Apparate-Werke Berlin had a staff of about 4000. At the end of World War Two the enterprise was made a Soviet-owned public limited company. In 1948 the company was renamed Elektro-Apparate-Werke Berlin (EAW). In the period from 1948 to 1989 EAW were one of the largest enterprises of electrical industry. 1990 saw the conversion from the nationally-owned company into a limited company called Elektro-Apparate-Werke Berlin GmbH. In 1993 Elektro-Apparate-Werke Berlin GmbH were transformed to private ownership with the former units of the company being newly founded as independent small and medium-sized enterprises, one of which is EAW Relaistechnik GmbH. The foundation of these enterprises enabled the ongoing reorganization and reconstruction process to yield good results.
