History 1927 Creation in Belgium of the company Constructions électriques Schréder. 1948 First use of die cast aluminum alloy in the field of lighting. 1951 Launch by Schréder of electropolished aluminium reflectors with high photometric efficiency. 1982 Schréder’s first activity in North America, through a licensing contract with Emco, a lighting manufacturer in Illinois. This relationship later evolves into the creation of a 50/50 partnership with Thomas Industries who acquired Emco in 1986. Thomas-Schréder, specialized in tunnel lighting, continues to exist until 2002. 1986 Schréder launches the Sealsafe®, ensuring long lasting tightness of the optical compartment, which has become a world standard. 1992 Hydro-Quebec, the electricity company of the Canadian province of Quebec, creates a program to replace its outdoor lighting with a more efficient product. The Schréder Group joins forces with Lumec, a company of the Genlyte Group, to create Lumec-Schréder, a joint venture which was to design the Helios luminaire to respond to the needs of Hydro-Quebec. Later, Lumec-Schréder broadens its product range to specialize in architectural lighting and tunnel lighting. 1998 Schréder launches the Easilok®, a positioning procedure with mechanical locking and automatic cutout of the electricity supply. 2001 Schréder launches the µR® (micro-reflector), enabling great creative liberty in the design of lighting luminaires. 2006 The joint venture Lumec-Schréder ceases to exist on December 31st 2005. On January 1st 2006, the team creates Schréder inc., the new Schréder company for the US and Canada. 2007 Schréder Lighting LLC is founded in Chicago, IL.
