In a second area of production we develop and build machines and installations for coating a wide range of materials. 40 years of Mathis AG – retrospect and future By Beat Mathis, CEO MATHIS AG – the past My father Werner Mathis founded the company Werner Mathis AG in 1968. In his former position as the design manager of a textile machine factory, he soon realised that major market potential existed for textile machines and laboratory apparatus for dyeing and finishing. As he saw it, the apparatus in those days was far too large to make the necessary settings with them in a laboratory. Thus, Werner Mathis started up his own business in the basement of his house where he began to develop and build his first laboratory apparatus. Very soon, the demand for MATHIS apparatus became so strong that he was able to build his own company premises at Oberhasli, Switzerland, which he moved into in 1975. This building has remained the headquarters of Werner Mathis AG up to the present day. In 1986, the building was extended and heightened. In the same industrial area, it was possible for a second manufacturing building to be acquired in 1995 which, since then, has accommodated our metal working and entire sheet metal processing facility. In 2002, we added an assembly bay 40 metres long and 20 metres wide to the main building to enable us to also assemble larger systems. MATHIS AG – the present Currently, 60 people are employed at our Oberhasli headquarters. Today at Oberhasli, we have our: Sales department for the world-wide sales of MATHIS products in cooperation with some 50 carefully selected representatives Research and development Mechanical and electrical engineering Software department for developing and programming our machine and system controls Documentation office Service and spare parts department Large technical bay for running customers’ tests Spacious goods and spare parts warehouse containing all components required to build our machines and systems Metal working bay for processing sheet steel and stainless-steel sheet Electric department for the electrical installation of all machines and systems Assembly bay where all machines and systems are completely assembled and tested Shipping department MATHIS AG has also operated its own factory in Brazil for 25 years to supply the South American market. It also employs some 60 people there. In addition, MATHIS AG has its own subsidiaries for sales and service in the following countries: USA: Werner Mathis U.S.A. Inc., Concord, NC INDIA: Mathis (India) PVT. LTD, Thane CHINA: Mathis China Representative, Shanghai The two mainstays of MATHIS AG 1. Manufacturing laboratory textile machines and apparatus for dyeing and finishing in the textile, chemical and dyeing industry. We may say with pride today that we are the world’s leading laboratory textile machine manufacturer. 2. Manufacturing coating equipment for laboratory und production in factories in the textile, paper and foil sectors, the pharmaceutics and plastics industries, of battery and fuel cell manufacturers, of steel and aluminium processors and in the automotive industry. Our philosophy: Provide an individual solution for every customer’s need. We advocate top quality because this is our conviction. We also point out to customers that only by using first-quality apparatus in their laboratories will they obtain the desired reproducible results that can be taken over for regular production. For us, “Made in Switzerland” is synonymous with peak quality, a long service life and low maintenance requirements. Another reason for our success is our close, partner-like cooperation with customers. Due to our own very wide range of manufacturing, we can respond quickly and specifically to customers’ special requirements and implement them accordingly. As a result, our machines and systems are continually upgraded through our customers’ input. Many machines and systems are built in accordance with a customer’s requirements. Our philosophy: The phrase “It’s impossible” doesn’t exist and so we find a solution suitable for every problem in cooperation with the customer. During the past 40 years, we have built and sold a total of 13,500 machines and systems worldwide. Most of these machines and systems are in operation today and we still repair them or supply customers with the pertaining spare parts. We attach great importance to the “After sales service”.
