Founded by the family Bornay, its origins date back to the seventies. The company was started in order to search for solutions to the hight demand for power supply on remote sites. The first wind turbines were built using modified car alternators, mechanical gears and hand-shaped, wooden blades. Bornays innovative solutions rapidly generated a high demand, and progressively became more advanced and personalized. J.Bornay Wind Turbines brand was not stablished as a trademark until the early eightys. At this stage, the first catalogues appeared, and its products were distributed thorughout Spain. The first installations were focused on covering the basic energy needs in teledommunications servers, and profiding electricity to small houses and remote homes. Nowadays, Bornay wind turbines are used in more demanding and complex installations. They have been successfully involved in more than 3500 installations they have taken part in are the Spanish Antarctic Expedition "Juan Carlos I", the telecommunications repeaters for the Spanish Civil Guard and the Venezuelan Police, and International Cooperations installations in Marocco, Angola, Mauritania and Tanzania. Bornay is located in Riu Industrial Park, in Castalla, Spain. Its manufacturing facilities cover a surface of 1500 sqm, and are self sustained through the use of solar and wind energy. The electricity is generated by a mixed wind/solar system, feeding a battery bank and a three-phase 220v inverter. The photovoltaic installation is connected to the grid where the exceeding electricity is dumped. The bioclimatic architectural features of the building allow for a highly performing use of the natural resources. It has been designed taking into consideration the surrounding conditions in order to have natural temperature controls. The building houses all of the production preocesses involved in building wind turbines. There include electric, mechanical, composites and assembly activities. Bornay, has been ISO-9001:2000, for the design and production of small windturbines for off grid applications, certified by AENOR in an effort to improve its quality and its services. Bornay is the first and only wind turbine manufacturer worldwide that has received this certification. The company has received the NOVA 2001 Award for its contribution to the environment, and the Sol y Paz Award from Foundation Terra, for the companys evolution and growth. Today, Bornay continues to develop energy solutions that are adapted to all of its customers needs.
