Throughout our history, Energizer has taken proactive steps to minimize the impact of our products and manufacturing processes on the environment, and we continue to look for ways to improve these measures today. Our Mission At Energizer Holdings, we will “do the right thing” in conducting our business to ensure that we preserve the environment for future generations while providing a safe and healthy working environment for all colleagues. Our Products Throughout the years, Energizer has led the industry in eliminating heavy metals from our batteries, while at the same time improving performance. During the 1990’s, Energizer removed Mercury and Cadmium from all household batteries (AAA, AA, C, D and 9V), introducing the first zero-added mercury battery in the United States. During the same time, we converted our hearing aid batteries from mercuric oxide to a zinc air form, eliminating 90% of the mercury. Today we produce hearing aid batteries with no added mercury. We also manufacture Energizer® Ultimate Lithium batteries, the world’s longest lasting AA and AAA batteries for high-tech devices. Not only do they last longer than ordinary alkaline batteries, they are significantly lighter than alkaline batteries. In addition, we offer Energizer® Rechargeable batteries. Energizer is one of the largest supporters of the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC). Visit www.RBRC.org for the nearest recycling center or call 1-800-8-battery for rechargeable battery recycling and disposal information. Our Packaging Energizer specifies that the paperboard in our primary and secondary packaging is 100% recyclable, runs efficiently on our production equipment to eliminate waste and does not use any heavy metal inks during the printing process. In addition, we have dramatically reduced ozone-depleting agents from our production process and work with our suppliers to do the same. Manufacturing All of our manufacturing facilities strive to meet or exceed Federal, State and Local environmental standards. In addition, we continue to proactively reduce the environmental footprint of our manufacturing operations prior to any governmental mandates. For example, Energizer has been proactive in changing our processes and procedures to minimize our impact on the communities in which we operate, including efforts to reduce scrap and outgoing waste to landfills. In fact, in the United States, we worked closely with the Environmental Protection Agency as they developed battery effluent standards modeled in large part on what Energizer has achieved. Energizer Household Products Division Milestones We have demonstrated our commitment to sustainability by making product enhancements and promoting safe battery disposal. These efforts have resulted in some of the lowest injury rates in our industries. Of the 15 million workplaces in the U.S., only 1,700 have earned recognition as Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) sites. To understand the significance of this award, only 0.01%, or 1 in nearly 9,000, of workplaces qualify for OSHA’s VPP program. Energizer has five facilities recognized in the VPP-STAR program: » Asheboro One – NC » Maryville – MO » Milford – CT » Asheboro Two – NC » Bennington – VTAdditionally, the U.S. Household Products Division, which man
