The parent company, Autoset (Production) Ltd, established themselves in Birmingham as makers of treadle lathes, shelving systems, castors and wheels. From 1919 to 1922 they produced a range of popular scooters under the brand names of Autoglider. The scooters were succesfully sold through agents in the USA, Holland and South Africa. Unfortunately, a strike by the tyre suppliers brought production of these vehicles to an end. In late 1954 an application, which had previously been solved by the use of inverted castors, called for instantaneous change of direction. The use of castors (which recognise a trail) meant that the wheels had to align before directional change could be achieved. The heavy load carrying capacity of the castor had to be combined with these new movement requirements, hence the OMNITRACK and AUTOTRACK range of Ball Transfer Units was invented and patented. This range is, to date, unsurpassed and is still in production and available in the same configuration and format today. Omnitrack units are designed and assembled by the same family that patented the units in 1954. Our loyal and professional Agents and Distributors, who represent us in 45 countries worldwide, are known for their helpfulness and commitment to service. 55 years on the expanded range continues to solve the demands of a wide range of industries & applications - from the intricate, accurate and highly sensitive control of components in the Hadron collider to the shock-loading, severe heat and extreme loads imposed by steel making and other heavy industries.
