This work was carried out in conjunction with the University of Wales, Aberystwyth and I.C.I. Biological Products (now Astra-Zeneca). In 1988 Aber Instruments was formed to develop the technology. The combination of biologists and electronics engineers working at Aber Instruments produced a range of high specification on-line instruments with worldwide patent cover, including the Biomass Monitor for biotechnology applications and the Yeast Monitor for use in breweries. Aber Instruments has now built up a wealth of experience with all aspects of biomass monitoring and has rapidly gained recognition for its expertise in the development of instrumentation for biotechnology and brewing.
