ABB was formed in 1988 through the merger of two international companies with over a century of history each—Sweden's ASEA and Switzerland's Brown, Boveri & Cie—and is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. ABB established its China business unit in Hong Kong in 1974 and invested in its first joint venture in China, Xiamen ABB Switchgear Co., Ltd., in 1992. China is ABB Group's second-largest market globally.
