ABB was formed in 1988 through the merger of two international companies with over a century of history each—Sweden's ASEA and Switzerland's Brown, Boveri & Cie—and is headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland. Building on over 140 years of excellence, ABB operates in more than 100 countries and regions worldwide, with approximately 110,000 employees.

ABB established its China business unit in Hong Kong in 1974 and invested in its first joint venture in China, Xiamen ABB Switchgear Co., Ltd., in 1992. Today, ABB conducts research and development, manufacturing, sales, and engineering services in China, with 30 local companies and 14,000 employees across more than 100 cities. China is ABB Group's second-largest market globally. Over the past decade, ABB has invested more than USD 1 billion cumulatively in China, with approximately 85% of sales revenue derived from locally manufactured products, systems, and services.
