Wedoany.com Report on Feb 27th, Anas has officially launched the four-lane road upgrading project on the S.S. 4 "Salaria" highway between Ponte Buida and San Giovanni Reatino in the province of Rieti, covering the section from kilometer 56,000 to 64,000. This project is a key component of the Salaria highway strengthening plan, marking the concrete commencement of the first lot.

The project launch ceremony was held on-site, attended by numerous officials including Floriana Brocoletti, Mayor of Sabina Torricella; Daniele Sinibaldi, Mayor of Rieti; Fulvio Maria Socodato, Special Commissioner for SS4 "Salaria" Infrastructure Works; and Claudio Andrea Gemme, CEO of Anas. Claudio Andrea Gemme stated: "Anas is committed to transforming the national infrastructure plan into concrete projects. Upgrading the Salaria highway to four lanes, a historic artery connecting multiple regions, is crucial for strengthening the link between Rome and the inland areas, reducing travel times, and supporting economic development, while maintaining a strong focus on safety, sustainability, and traffic continuity."

This road upgrading project involves two functional segments within the first lot. Segment 3, located between kilometers 59,450 and 61,440, spans approximately two kilometers. It plans to transform the road platform into a Class B major suburban highway with two lanes in each direction, each 3.50 meters wide, and a central divider to enhance safety and traffic flow standards. Additionally, the "San Lorenzo" twin-arch tunnel will be constructed, one for each carriageway, with lengths of approximately 225 meters and 466 meters respectively. Segment 1 (kilometers 56,000 – 57,900) has also been handed over and entered the construction phase.

Fulvio Maria Socodato emphasized that the road upgrading of the first lot is a decisive step for the Lazio region, particularly the Rieti area. The government's decision to appoint special management for the entire S.S. 4 "Salaria" axis aims to handle this strategic infrastructure in a unified and organic manner, accelerating the implementation of interventions. This road upgrade will structurally enhance the level of infrastructure service, placing people, safety, and the dialogue between the road and its environmental context at the center.

The first lot (from kilometer 56,000 to 64,000) has total funding of 318.1 million euros and belongs to the broader Salaria special management plan. This plan aims to modernize approximately 14 kilometers of the route, with a total investment of 525 million euros, divided into two functional lots and further subdivided into seven execution segments, each with an average construction period of about two years.
