Recently, the South Sudan Juba-Rumbek Highway construction project, undertaken by Shandong Hi-Speed Road and Bridge International Co., Ltd., officially resumed work. The resumption ceremony for the highway construction project was attended by South Sudan Government Presidential Special Envoy for Special Projects Adut, Minister of Roads and Bridges Peter Lam, and Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan Ma Qiang.

Special Envoy Adut stated at the site: "The Juba-Rumbek Highway is a strategic transportation artery connecting Central Equatoria State and Lakes State, covering a vast area with strong radiating capacity, serving approximately one-third of the country's population." She pointed out that this highway construction project is of great significance for breaking regional transportation bottlenecks, improving the national infrastructure system, and promoting connectivity and socio-economic development. Special Envoy Adut also stated that the South Sudan Government will continue to pay close attention to and fully support the highway construction, creating a favorable environment for the smooth progress of the project.
This resumption marks the official entry of the Juba-Rumbek Highway construction project into a new phase of accelerated construction. The mainline of the project is 392.7 kilometers long, built according to South Sudan's DS3 highway standard, with a design speed of 100 km/h, featuring two lanes in each direction, a roadbed width of 12 meters, and an asphalt concrete pavement structure. The highway construction project is divided into four sections for implementation. The first section, approximately 63 kilometers from Juba to Terekeka, was completed and opened to traffic in June 2022, significantly improving travel conditions for people along the route.
The resumption of the Juba-Rumbek Highway construction project reflects the excellent image of Chinese enterprises in honoring commitments and efficiently fulfilling contracts. As a key transportation corridor connecting Central Equatoria State and Lakes State, the future full completion of this project will further improve South Sudan's national infrastructure system and contribute to consolidating China-South Sudan friendship and promoting regional connectivity.
