The second edition of the National Greenhouse Gas Emission Factor Database has been officially released, with support from the China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec). This update covers methane emission factors for onshore oil and gas facilities such as gathering stations, compressor stations, and natural gas processing plants, providing a more accurate data foundation for greenhouse gas emission calculations.Image related to Sinopec supporting the greenhouse gas emission factor database

Since the dual carbon goals were proposed, Sinopec has continued to invest in controlling methane emissions. The company has conducted systematic methane monitoring for many years and participated in the carbon monitoring and assessment pilot project led by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment to improve the reliability of emission data.

To ensure the accuracy and applicability of methane emission factors, Sinopec's Health, Safety, and Environment Management Department and Oilfield Exploration and Development Department commissioned the Sinopec Energy Conservation Monitoring Center. Using technical methods such as ground-based manual monitoring, they sampled typical production facilities and collected raw data. This data underwent scientific accounting and expert review, forming key factors that reflect the current emission levels of China's oil and gas fields.

The release of this database is expected to help oil and gas companies more accurately calculate greenhouse gas emissions and assess the effectiveness of emission reduction measures. It provides high-quality data support for carbon emission statistics and calculations, contributing to the advancement of the dual carbon goals.
