Construction Manager Cameron Kay stated, "The system draws and stores energy from the grid during periods of low electricity demand for use during peak times." This operational model helps balance grid load and optimize energy dispatch.

Once operational, the Gorgas Battery Energy Storage System will have a capacity of 150 megawatts, capable of providing approximately two hours of power for about 9,000 households under standard conditions. The battery packs are designed to charge in about two hours, absorbing excess power during low demand and discharging to support the grid during high-load periods.

On-site Assistant Manager Jonathan Watts emphasized that the project represents an innovation in energy management: "The Gorgas battery energy storage facility provides Alabama Power customers with an economical, reliable, and sustainable power supply solution." Each Megapack contains 24 battery modules, bringing the total number of modules on-site to 2,208.
