Wedoany.com Report-Dec 04,  The global capacity for acetic acid is anticipated to experience significant growth within the next four years, potentially increasing from 20.51 million tons per annum (mtpa) in 2023 to 29.09mtpa by 2028. Presently, ten planned and announced acetic acid projects are set to commence operations globally by 2028, with the majority located in Asia, and the remainder in the Middle East and Africa.

Asia is expected to add a capacity of 6.20mtpa from seven new-build projects. As for capacity expansions, the region is expected to add a capacity of 0.50mtpa from an expansion project. In Asia, all additions to acetic acid capacity stem from forthcoming projects in China. The most significant increase will be from the planned ‘Guangdong Shengyuanda Technology Jieyang Acetic Acid Plant’, which boasts a capacity of 1.50mtpa. This facility is currently under construction and is anticipated to begin operations in 2026. Following closely are the ‘Zhejiang Petrochemical Ineos JV Daishan Acetic Acid Plant’ and the ‘ShengHong Holding Group Lianyungang Acetic Acid Plant’, each with a capacity of 1.0mtpa. Their expected operational start dates are 2026 and 2028, respectively.

The Middle East follows next, with a capacity addition of 0.30mtpa from an upcoming planned project ‘Bushehr Petrochemical Company Assaluyeh Acetic Acid Plant’ in Iran. Located in the Bushehr state, this project is anticipated to come online in 2025.
