en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 24th, EcoCeres recently launched a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) pilot project in China, codenamed "Project Spark." This initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Administration of China's Second Research Institute (CASRI), China National Aviation Fuel Group (CNAF), China Southern Airlines, Air China Cargo, Sichuan Airlines, and Huarong Chemical to complete the closed-loop of a green value chain for sustainable aviation fuel.
This progress is regarded as a significant breakthrough in the decarbonization process of China's aviation industry and has achieved key advancements in the nation's independent certification framework for sustainable aviation fuel and environmental credit system. On March 16, the sustainable aviation fuel produced by EcoCeres's Zhangjiagang plant and blended by CNAF provided refueling services for multiple commercial flights at Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport.
The pilot project also enabled the compliant transfer of environmental credits through the AnchorTrace platform. AnchorTrace is a Scope 3 sustainable aviation fuel environmental credit registration and cancellation system jointly developed by CNAF and CASRI. EcoCeres CEO Matti Lievonen stated, "Launching the SAF pilot project in China together with these influential partners is a proud moment for EcoCeres and a positive signal for the future of sustainable aviation. By combining our waste-to-fuel technology with leading aviation fuel and ecosystem expertise, we are translating climate goals into concrete actions."
EcoCeres's sustainable aviation fuel is produced from waste and residual feedstocks using proprietary processes, which can reduce lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by up to 90% compared to conventional jet fuel. By integrating SAF into existing fuel supply infrastructure, the partners have demonstrated the feasibility of adopting low-carbon fuels without compromising safety, reliability, or operational efficiency.
In addition to this new collaboration in mainland China, EcoCeres's sustainable aviation fuel has been supplied to international airlines such as Air New Zealand, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and Qantas, further highlighting its role as a decarbonization partner for airlines in the Asia-Pacific and European markets.
