en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 24th, The Kansas Department of Transportation officially launched the East Kellogg Highway Project on March 23, with construction crews having commenced work. This highway project involves the reconstruction of a busy section of U.S. Route 54 (East Kellogg Avenue) and is listed as one of the largest road rebuilding projects in the state's history. The primary construction contract is valued at $287.97 million, making it the largest single contract ever awarded by the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The highway project extends approximately two miles, from east of Interstate 35 near 127th Street to a quarter-mile east of 159th Street, spanning Sedgwick and Butler Counties. The core of the project is to widen U.S. Route 54 into a six-lane corridor, complete interchange modifications at K-96, 143rd Street, and 159th Street, while fully replacing 26 bridges, constructing 32 new retaining walls, and building dual-lane frontage roads on both sides to maintain local access. Kansas Department of Transportation officials stated that the highway project aims to reduce congestion, enhance safety, and improve travel efficiency along the East Wichita-Andover corridor.

The highway project is being undertaken by the Wichita-based joint venture Dondlinger Wildcat EKC1 LLC, with funding from Kansas's 10-year, $10 billion Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program. Early project phases include land grading and site preparation, which will have minimal traffic impact, while later stages will involve phased lane closures. The highway project is expected to take several years to complete and will connect with projects already underway west of Interstate 35, collectively enhancing the regional transportation network.
