en.Weodoany.com Report on Mar 27th, BNSF Railway recently announced that its customers invested over $5.3 billion in 2025, successfully completing 117 rail service projects, a figure that sets the highest record in the past six years. These projects have spurred economic growth in the industrial, agricultural, and consumer markets and have created over 1,200 new jobs.
Among the numerous completed projects, U.S. Steel invested $27 million to expand and upgrade the rail infrastructure at its Big River Steel plant campus in Osceola, Arkansas. The campus features nearly 40 miles of track primarily used for handling raw material inputs and finished steel outputs. Additionally, South Dakota Soybean Processors completed the $500 million High Plains Processing facility near Mitchell, South Dakota, which can process 35 million bushels of soybeans annually and has direct access to the BNSF mainline.
BNSF also announced the addition of a new certified site near Mobile, Alabama, the first to be operated by a BNSF Shortline Select™ partner—Alabama & Gulf Coast Railway, a Genesee & Wyoming Inc. company. Located near the Port of Mobile and major interstate corridors, this site helps businesses expand their production and distribution networks to access the Gulf Coast and global markets.
Certified sites streamline the site selection process and reduce development barriers by providing audited and validated rail service locations. Tom Williams, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of BNSF, stated, "The record number of project completions in 2025 demonstrates our customers' strong investment and confidence in rail infrastructure. Expanding our network of rail-ready sites will further facilitate our customers' market access and business growth strategies."
