en.Wedoany.com Reported - CSCEC8 Engineering Research Institute has recently completed the research and development of two key technologies, including rapid detection technology for mud content in sand and stone, and a residual flocculant shielding agent for manufactured sand. This technological system addresses the quality control challenges of applying manufactured sand in major projects, achieving closed-loop management from source detection to performance adjustment.

With natural sand resources becoming increasingly scarce, manufactured sand has become the primary aggregate in construction projects. However, its fluctuating mud content and residual flocculants affecting concrete performance are common quality control challenges faced by the industry. To address these two major issues, CSCEC8 has developed "detection" and "treatment" technological solutions respectively.
Regarding mud content detection, the team developed a rapid testing device. This equipment integrates four functional modules: drying, weighing, cleaning, and transfer, and for the first time employs turbidity optical detection technology to objectively determine the cleaning endpoint, replacing traditional manual visual judgment. A single detection cycle takes approximately 3 hours. This device has already been put into use in the laboratory of the Jizao Expressway project.
To address the issue of residual polyacrylamide (PAM) flocculant from the manufactured sand production process affecting concrete fluidity, the R&D team introduced a matching shielding agent and application process. This technology, added in-situ during the mixing stage, can degrade over 70% of the PAM molecular chains within 10 to 15 minutes, restoring mortar fluidity to normal levels. According to estimates, the cost of this shielding agent is only one-twentieth of the traditional alternative using superplasticizers, and its reaction products are carbon dioxide, water, and harmless iron salts. This technology has been validated in projects such as the Weisu High-Speed Railway.
By combining rapid detection and performance modification technologies, CSCEC8 has formed a comprehensive quality control system. This system covers the entire process from raw material inspection upon arrival to concrete performance assurance.
