en.Wedoany.com Reported - Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC) has officially unveiled its next-generation N700ST high-speed train set, with 100 days remaining until the scheduled delivery of the first set. The company has ordered 12 train sets from the Hitachi Toshiba alliance, with deliveries running from August 2026 to the end of 2028. The first trains are expected to enter commercial operation in August 2027.

At the unveiling ceremony, THSRC Chairman Shih Che likened the train's exterior shape to a platypus. According to technical data released by THSRC, the N700ST's aerodynamic design can reduce noise by 3 decibels and decrease vibration. Speaking about the train's performance, Shih Che stated: "The train's improved aerodynamics are particularly noticeable when entering tunnels."

In terms of weight reduction, the N700ST is 13 tonnes lighter than the 700T model it will replace. This weight saving is attributed to optimizations in car body materials and structural design, helping to reduce operational energy consumption.

Once the Japanese-made N700ST trains enter service, peak-hour capacity on the line will increase by 25%. The total price for the 12 train sets is NT$25.8 billion, approximately US$815 million. The entire Taiwan High Speed Rail line currently uses Japan's Shinkansen technology system. The 700T trains have been in operation since the line opened in 2007, over 18 years ago, making this introduction of the N700ST the line's first large-scale fleet renewal.
