en.Wedoany.com Reported - Virginia-based AIRO Group announced on May 11 plans to produce the RQ-70 Dainn Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS), a follow-on to the company's smaller, hand-launched RQ-35 drone. The announcement was made in Detroit on the first day of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) Xponential trade show.

AIRO Group Chief Operating Officer John Uczekaj stated: "The RQ-70 is not built on assumptions. We are creating this system based on critical insights and direct battlefield feedback from the RQ-35 platform." The RQ-70's design builds upon over four years of continuous operational experience with the RQ-35 platform in Ukraine, aiming to support more complex mission requirements, including long-range intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), long-endurance persistent surveillance, and targeting operations across larger dynamic areas.

Key performance parameters for this model include: 8-hour endurance, an operational radius of over 62 miles (100 km), vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) capability, a modular multi-mission payload architecture, adaptability in GPS/GNSS-denied environments, and single-operator deployment with fully autonomous mission execution capability. The system is designed with an integrated AI-driven architecture, combining the air vehicle, sensors, software, and user interface into a single interconnected system, intended for continuous improvement through ongoing operational use.

AIRO Group CEO Joe Burns stated: "The RQ-70 represents the natural evolution of our operational experience in complex, contested environments." Full-scale production is targeted to begin in January 2027, with initial deliveries planned for the second half of 2027, subject to market demand and program execution.
