en.Wedoany.com Reported - Covestro has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jiangsu Genofort to jointly develop ultra-flexible printed electronic tactile interaction systems for automotive interiors. This collaboration addresses the growing demand for intelligent, interactive cabin environments that respond to occupant needs.

The partnership combines Covestro's technical strengths in thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) film substrates with Genofort's expertise in tactile interaction assembly systems. Genofort is a global company specializing in ultra-flexible and soft printed electronics for automotive interiors.

Emerging cabin concepts include seats that can sense occupant body shape and adjust posture settings for enhanced comfort, as well as interior surfaces capable of interpreting touch input and providing precise haptic feedback. However, realizing these functions in increasingly complex three-dimensional designs remains challenging, as traditional rigid materials and hard circuits often lack the required flexibility, durability, and integration capability.

Under the MoU, Covestro will lead the development and industrialization of TPU film substrates. TPU films offer excellent flexibility, durability, processing versatility, ink adhesion, and long-term stability, making them a key substrate for ultra-flexible printed electronic systems and helping to build a fully integrated value chain.

The collaboration will focus on center consoles, steering wheels, door panels, seats, and headliners, aiming to integrate body shape sensing, adaptive comfort, thermal regulation, health monitoring, and responsive touch interaction into unified solutions to enhance occupant comfort and cabin intelligence.

The two companies also plan to jointly support the development of relevant industry standards, helping to accelerate the commercialization and broader adoption of ultra-flexible tactile technology in the automotive industry.

Weihong Du, Head of Marketing and Development for Covestro's Specialty Films in Asia Pacific, stated: "The next generation of smart cabins places entirely new demands on interior materials. They must not only conform to complex surfaces but also enable sensing and interaction functions. Through our collaboration with Genofort, we aim to closely integrate material innovation with system integration, driving flexible tactile interaction technology from the lab to mass production and providing differentiated solutions for automotive customers."

Lingyao Lu, Chairman of Genofort, said: "Ultra-flexible tactile interaction systems represent a key direction in the intelligent transformation of automotive interiors. Covestro's leadership in high-performance film materials and our proprietary system integration technology form a powerful complement. This collaboration will accelerate the global application of ultra-flexible printed electronics, enabling us to enter the global high-end supply chain and jointly explore new frontiers in this field."
