en.Wedoany.com Reported - Aitech has launched the world's first AI-enabled picosatellite constellation platform, IQSat, while its media converter has been deployed in the Orion capsule of NASA's Artemis II mission, enabling data format conversion between optical and copper networks during pre-launch inspections and mission operations.
The core value of the IQSat platform lies in deploying AI inference processing directly at the orbital edge, i.e., processing data at the point of collection in space. Taking image data as an example, the satellite directly identifies targets of interest to the AI model, processes them, and transmits the results (rather than raw images) back to the ground, compressing data transmission from megabytes or gigabytes to kilobytes. This accelerates the sensor-to-action loop and alleviates bandwidth constraints on both uplink and downlink channels.
In terms of AI capability support, NVIDIA's acceleration technology helps Aitech rapidly create models and deploy them on the IQSat platform, enabling efficient generative AI processing beyond Earth. The unique space environment poses three major challenges for electronic devices: radiation protection and fault recovery, strict power budgets (relying solely on solar panels for watt-level power), and heat dissipation in a vacuum, requiring innovative cooling solutions.
Beyond Earth observation imaging, constellation platforms like IQSat can use AI to identify anomalous behaviors—such as tracking whether a truck deviates from its route or whether a school bus arrives on time—extending applications to non-traditional space sectors like logistics and security. Aitech believes that every company could become a space-enabled company. Regarding the prospect of low Earth orbit (LEO) data centers, the cold environment on the dark side of space aids in cooling high-power chips, reducing environmental cooling energy consumption and thus supporting intensive AI processing.
