en.Wedoany.com Reported - China's first grid-side "electrochemical + hydrogen energy storage" independent energy storage demonstration project—the Shengde Erdengtu Hydrogen Energy Storage Power Station in Huade County, Ulanqab City—has officially entered the commercial operation phase. The project, with a total installed capacity of 100MW/400MWh, was initiated by the grid connection of the Shengde Inner Mongolia 90MW/360MWh energy storage project, jointly promoted by China Hydrogen Energy Group Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Xinran Compressor Co., Ltd. The 90MW/360MWh electrochemical energy storage portion has been connected to the grid for power generation, while the 10MW/40MWh hydrogen energy storage system is in the critical stage of equipment commissioning.
This demonstration project innovatively adopts a complementary scheme of "short-term electrochemical energy storage + long-term hydrogen energy storage," constructing a three-dimensional energy storage system encompassing "second-level response, hour-level regulation, and cross-day/cross-season storage." The electrochemical energy storage system can achieve millisecond-level frequency regulation response, quickly smoothing fluctuations in wind and solar power output. The hydrogen energy storage system, relying on core equipment such as the Xinran XR-3.8/(10-15)-29 hydrogen compressor, converts surplus electricity into green hydrogen for storage, enabling cross-day and cross-season long-cycle energy regulation, aiming to address the "intermittency and volatility" challenges of new energy power.
The project is located in Huade County, Ulanqab City, Inner Mongolia, where abundant wind and solar resources provide sufficient electricity for green hydrogen production. At the project site, the Xinran hydrogen compressor has completed joint commissioning with hydrogen storage tanks and electrolyzer equipment from China Hydrogen Energy Group Co., Ltd., forming a complete "hydrogen production—compression—storage—power generation" chain. This domestically produced hydrogen energy equipment, customized for Inner Mongolia's extreme cold and sandy conditions, was jointly optimized by China Hydrogen Energy Group Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Xinran Compressor Co., Ltd., breaking the dependence on imported products for similar equipment. Core components are 100% independently controllable and can operate stably in environments as low as -30°C.
According to the project leader, after operation, the project can consume over 500 million kWh of new energy electricity annually, equivalent to reducing standard coal consumption by approximately 150,000 tons and carbon dioxide emissions by about 400,000 tons. The green hydrogen produced can also serve as industrial raw material, transportation fuel, or a source of district heating, promoting the development of green chemical industries such as green ammonia and green methanol in the region, and helping Inner Mongolia build a nationally important new energy equipment manufacturing base and a demonstration zone for green hydrogen production and application.
This grid connection has verified the feasibility of the "electric-hydrogen hybrid energy storage" technical route, providing an important reference for the construction of a new-type power system nationwide. The collaboration between China Hydrogen Energy Group Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Xinran Compressor Co., Ltd. offers a demonstration model for collaborative innovation in the hydrogen energy industry chain. With the subsequent commissioning of the hydrogen energy storage system, this project will become a comprehensive energy hub integrating peak shaving and frequency regulation, long-duration energy storage, and green hydrogen production, contributing an "Inner Mongolia solution" to solving the challenge of new energy consumption and promoting energy structure transformation.
