en.Wedoany.com Reported - At the Nextcloud Summit 2026 in Munich, Nextcloud released the Hub 26 Spring version, which integrates Euro-Office into its suite of work applications, while also launching new compliance applications for large organizations and a program to support independent software vendor development.

First released in March this year, Euro-Office is positioned as an open-source sovereign alternative to Microsoft Office, targeting European organizations looking to reduce their dependence on US technology vendors. The suite includes four browser-based applications: a document editor, a spreadsheet program, a presentation tool, and a PDF editor, all supporting collaborative editing. Euro-Office documents can also be opened directly from the Nextcloud Files mobile app. Nextcloud is one of several European companies supporting Euro-Office, which is built on OnlyOffice's open-source codebase and distributed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPL v3).

With this integration, Nextcloud users can choose between two options in Nextcloud Office: Euro-Office and the existing Collabora integration. Jos Poortvliet, co-founder and vice president of communications at Nextcloud, said at the event that Euro-Office takes a different architectural approach, enabling better performance and a different user experience in the browser, making it important to offer this option.

Other updates in the Nextcloud Hub 26 Spring version include improvements to the Talk video and voice conferencing app, with new AI noise suppression and the ability to start a call from any Nextcloud Hub app—Poortvliet noted this will make collaborative editing more convenient. Additionally, the Nextcloud Assistant has added AI agent capabilities, now able to create cards in the Deck task management app and update information in the Forms app, in addition to managing calendars and tasks. The AI assistant's interface has also been improved, allowing it to be moved to avoid blocking other apps and enabling users to more easily copy and paste text without opening another tab. To meet the requirements of the EU AI Act, Nextcloud will make it easier to see which vendor provides the large language model (LLM) that the Assistant relies on. Nextcloud has also integrated the AI assistant directly into the Nextcloud Office suite, with a sidebar chat interface allowing users to resolve issues in the spreadsheet application.

The new Governance app helps large organizations—particularly governments and highly regulated industries—use compliance tools to meet regulatory requirements and manage data held in Nextcloud Hub. The app includes sensitivity labels for controlling access permissions, data retention and archiving features, and legal hold options for preserving documents for legal purposes, such as court cases. The Governance app includes a compliance manager that provides a compliance score based on the organization's regulatory requirements and measures progress toward specific goals. Administrators can search and review documents shared by employees and generate compliance audit reports. The app is available to Nextcloud Enterprise customers.

Nextcloud has also launched a program to support independent software vendors in building applications on its platform. Nextcloud CEO Frank Karlitschek said AI makes it easier for developers to build software that integrates with the platform, so Nextcloud expects the number of available apps to grow from the current 600 to 6,000 within the next 12 months. Nextcloud has committed to promoting partner-developed apps in its app store and selling subscriptions as part of the ISV program, while providing customers with documentation and technical assistance. In return, developers will provide customers with assurances regarding security processes and long-term support. Karlitschek said this will strengthen the ecosystem, with developers also profiting from revenue sharing while leveraging the momentum they expect to gain from AI soon.
