en.Wedoany.com Reported - Axens has entered into a strategic cooperation agreement with Green Sky Capital (GSC) to develop a 200,000-ton-per-year sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility in Egypt, which will become the first SAF production plant in Egypt and Africa.

The project is advancing rapidly, with a target to commence production by the end of 2027. The plant will utilize Axens' proprietary Vegan HEFA technology to convert lipid feedstocks into SAF, focusing on locally sourced waste cooking oil as the primary raw material.

This initiative aims to support Egypt's energy transition goals while driving aviation decarbonization and positioning Egypt as a key renewable fuel hub spanning the Mediterranean and African markets.

Under the agreement, Axens will provide the Vegan HEFA technology along with integrated catalysts, adsorbents, and technical services, including operational support and training, to optimize plant performance and reliability. In addition to the development agreement, the two companies have signed a broader memorandum of understanding (MOU) to further optimize the project.

Within this framework, early work has already improved SAF yield without increasing utility consumption or affecting co-product performance. These gains are expected to significantly boost SAF output per ton of feedstock, enhance project economics, and give the platform a competitive edge over traditional SAF facilities.

Axens stated that this collaboration demonstrates its end-to-end capabilities across the clean fuels value chain—from feasibility studies to startup and full lifecycle support—and underscores its position in technologies such as biofuels, petrochemicals, plastic recycling, and carbon capture.
