en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Seoul AI Foundation, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has proposed a future vision for Seoul as an artificial intelligence (AI) city.

On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, the Seoul AI Foundation held a special dialogue with the MIT Senseable City Lab. The foundation announced on the 10th that, to commemorate its founding decade, it hosted a conversation featuring Carlo Ratti, Director of the MIT Senseable City Lab, and Kim Man-ki, Chairman of the Seoul AI Foundation. The two shared insights on Seoul's AI city innovation achievements and the vision for the next ten years.

The dialogue reviewed the accomplishments of the Seoul AI Foundation and the significance of its collaboration with the MIT Senseable City Lab, discussing Seoul's evolution into a digital and AI city, as well as the conditions required to become a leading global AI city.

The Seoul AI Foundation was established in 2016 as the Seoul Digital Foundation and was renamed this year. It currently conducts AI policy research, data analysis, public AI consulting, citizen AI education, and global cooperation projects, supporting the implementation of Seoul's AI policies.

The MIT Senseable City Lab is a research institution focused on analyzing cities using sensors and data. In February of this year, the Seoul AI Foundation opened "Senseable City Seoul" at the S-PLEX Center in Sangam-dong, Seoul, marking the fourth global lab of the MIT Senseable City Lab. Both parties believe that Seoul is moving beyond a digitally-based smart city to a stage where AI is used to solve urban problems. They agreed that to become a leading global AI city, not only technology and infrastructure are needed, but a citizen-centered inclusive approach is also crucial.

To expand citizen access to AI, the Seoul AI Foundation operates programs such as the "AI Explorer Everywhere Support Team," "Seoul Digital Together Square," and "Seoul AI Digital Learning Center," fostering an environment where citizens can utilize AI in their daily lives. Regarding future collaboration topics, both sides proposed ways to translate AI research outcomes into tangible urban changes that citizens can experience. The foundation is currently analyzing urban issues such as safety and tourism with the MIT Senseable City Lab, and is advancing research on physics-based AI for urban and built environment innovation with the Maxwell Centre at the University of Cambridge. Carlo Ratti, Director of the MIT Senseable City Lab, stated: "Seoul can go further by using AI to understand how people actually live together, creating an urban AI that connects research, policy, and citizens."
