en.Wedoany.com Reported - Uzbekistan's Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Combine (AGMK) is accelerating the construction of the new Copper Processing Plant No. 2 (MOF-2) processing complex. Once operational, this project will increase the annual ore processing capacity by 5 million tons, further boosting the production capacity of metals such as copper, gold, and silver.

Driven by the global energy transition and high-tech industries, the strategic importance of copper as a resource is increasingly prominent. AGMK is implementing several capacity expansion projects, with the new processing complex being a key component. Covering an area of 3.1 hectares, the complex is being constructed by the trust "Olmaliqmetallurgqurilish" (трест «Олмаликметаллургкурилиш»), with design documents prepared by the Engineering Design Department, and the installation and commissioning of process equipment handled by the specialized Maintenance Department.

According to Sardor Khasanov (Сардор Хасанов), Chief Process Engineer of the MOF-2 Production Technology Department, the preliminary construction phase involved 29,700 cubic meters of drilling and blasting operations and the transportation of approximately 80,000 cubic meters of earth. Currently, concrete columns and foundation bases are being poured in the fine crushing workshop, with foundations for four fine crushers being constructed simultaneously. Of the nine retaining walls totaling 231 meters in length, seven have been completed. Site preparation for the grinding and flotation sections, as well as the auxiliary production workshops, is also underway.

The new complex is designed with an annual processing capacity of 5 million tons of ore, expected to yield 74,200 tons of concentrate, thereby increasing the production of cathode copper, gold, silver, and other precious metals. The project will process ore from the "Yoshilik I" (Ёшлик I) deposit, with the first phase scheduled for completion between late 2026 and early 2027. Upon full commissioning, it will create 600 new jobs. Key equipment is being manufactured by the combine's Central Repair and Mechanical Plant. The production complex includes workshops for crushing, grinding, flotation, filtration, and concentration, as well as an air compressor station. After the project is operational, the total ore processing capacity of MOF-2 will approach 10 million tons per year.

The project relies primarily on AGMK's internal resources, production capabilities, and engineering expertise. Favorable global copper market conditions, combined with the commissioning of new production capacity, provide an economic foundation for its industrial growth and enhanced export potential.
