en.Wedoany.com Reported - Ricoh Co., Ltd. announced that it has signed an agreement with Thread AI to collaborate on an internal pilot that leverages AI technology to advance and automate facility management operations in Japan.

Currently, AI applications have shifted from experimentation and proof-of-concept phases to continuous deployment in daily operations. However, isolated or expertise-dependent AI deployments often struggle to achieve organization-wide optimization or sustainable value creation. With the increased integration of on-site sensor and camera data with operational data, as well as advancements in digital twin technology, a foundation has been laid for AI to more accurately understand real-world conditions and support decision-making and execution.
Under the agreement, Ricoh will combine Thread AI's technology with its own digital twin capabilities to build an execution platform that integrates digital twins, multimodal AI, and workflow orchestration. Ricoh will first apply this platform to facility management operations in Japan to validate the effectiveness of this end-to-end system, from AI-driven decision-making to operational execution. Insights gained from the internal pilot will be used to drive operational transformation in the facility management sector and develop new digital services. This initiative is part of Ricoh's activities within Plug and Play, a Silicon Valley innovation platform that Ricoh joined in September 2025.
Yasuyuki Nomizu, Chief Technology Officer of Ricoh, stated that this collaboration reflects Ricoh's commitment to advancing open innovation by addressing real operational challenges through external partners and cutting-edge technology. He noted that through this internal pilot, Ricoh is taking a significant step toward transforming and automating facility management operations across its facilities in Japan, and will continue to strengthen operational excellence while leveraging pilot insights to drive sustainable growth together with customers and partners.
Angela McNeal, Co-founder and CEO of Thread AI, said that this partnership marks an important milestone in expanding AI's role from the experimental phase to production-ready execution. By combining Thread AI's orchestration infrastructure with Ricoh's digital twin capabilities, the team can securely automate workflows, embed valuable expertise, and respond more quickly to on-site conditions, while maintaining full traceability and control over every AI operation.
Through this initiative, Ricoh will leverage advanced AI for situational understanding, decision support, and automation or semi-automation of tasks to transform its facility management operations in Japan, such as on-site facility inspections and maintenance operations. The initiative will build an AI-driven execution platform that integrates camera, sensor, and device data to enable real-time anomaly detection and optimized workflows. The shift from data analysis to automated execution aims to provide real-time visibility into on-site conditions, accelerate decision-making, and enhance operational quality. By standardizing processes to reduce reliance on individual expertise, Ricoh hopes to build internal knowledge, deploy scalable operational models across multiple sites, and foster a future ecosystem for its partners and customers.
Thread AI is an AI infrastructure company founded by former AI product and engineering leaders at Palantir. Its composable infrastructure and workflow orchestration platform, Lemma, enables enterprises to rapidly deploy AI into core operations. Ricoh is a global integrator of workplace transformation, operating in approximately 200 countries and regions, with its headquarters in Tokyo. For the fiscal year ending March 2026, the Ricoh Group reported global sales of 2,608 billion yen (approximately 16.4 billion USD).
