en.Wedoany.com Reported - Abu Dhabi-based AD Ports Group has launched the trial operation of the Noatum Ports - Safaga Terminal in Egypt, which is scheduled to commence full commercial operations later this year.

Egypt's Minister of Transport, Lieutenant-General Eng. Kamel El Wazir, along with AD Ports Group Managing Director and Group CEO, Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, inspected the terminal's operations, systems, and processes to confirm its readiness for full operational status.

The Noatum Ports - Safaga Terminal was constructed and is being operated under a 30-year concession agreement signed in 2023, executed by AD Ports Group in collaboration with the Red Sea Ports Authority (RSPA) of Egypt.

Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir stated that the Safaga Terminal is a key gateway for the development of Upper Egypt, playing a vital role in supporting mining activities related to the Golden Triangle Economic Zone, facilitating import and export operations, and driving development projects in northern, central, and southern Upper Egypt by enhancing connectivity with ports.

AD Ports Group Managing Director and Group CEO, Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, noted that Egypt is one of the Group's most important international markets. With its strategic access to the Red Sea, the Noatum Ports – Safaga Terminal solidifies the Group's position as a facilitator of trade along major waterways. He expressed anticipation for the new terminal's full commercial operations later this year, representing another significant step in collaboration with Egyptian partners, in line with the vision of the wise leadership.

The Noatum Ports - Safaga Terminal will be the first port terminal in the Upper Egypt region in the south of the country to be operated by an international operator. The terminal covers an area of approximately 810,000 square meters, with a draft of 17 meters and a 1,000-meter-long quay wall. Its designed handling capacity is 450,000 TEUs, expandable to 2 million TEUs at full capacity; it can also handle 5 million tons of dry bulk and general cargo, 1 million tons of liquid bulk, and 50,000 CEUs of roll-on/roll-off cargo. The launch of trial operations at the Safaga Terminal is the latest step in Egypt's broader port modernization plan, aimed at expanding maritime capacity, attracting international investment, and strengthening the country's role in regional and global trade flows.
