en.Wedoany.com Reported - Soma Gold has begun hauling mineralized material from the Aurora and El Limon mines to the El Bagre gold mine complex in Colombia.

The El Bagre complex is located in the department of Antioquia, approximately 167 kilometers northeast of the departmental capital, Medellín.

The company recently obtained the final explosives permit required for the Aurora mine, enabling the mine to resume operations immediately.

Soma Gold completed the acquisition of the Aurora mine in 2024 and is currently undertaking a major rehabilitation of the mine, including the installation of new electrical, ventilation, and hoisting systems. Upgrades to underground infrastructure are underway, with new rail lines added and development advancing on levels 5 and 6. These works have already produced mineralized material, which is being transported to the El Bagre gold mine complex. The company plans to ramp up the Aurora mine to commercial production in the third or fourth quarter of this year, targeting a licensed capacity of 20 tons per day. Until then, it expects to deliver 10 to 15 tons of ore per day for processing.

The El Limon mine has also resumed operations, having previously operated from 1995 to 2020 before closing due to low gold prices. Prior to resuming operations, the mine was dewatered to level 5.

Geoff Hampson, CEO of Soma Gold, stated: "Increased production from the Cordero mine, combined with deliveries from the Escondida, El Limon, and Aurora mines, has increased total feed. Once these mines reach full production, it will justify starting the processing operations at the El Limon mill. Adding sorting equipment at El Bagre will further enable processing of feed from the Nechi mine, which is expected to begin production in the third quarter of 2027." The company noted that further exploration and testing are needed to fully assess the resource extent at El Limon, adding that the mine is a useful source of additional mineralized material for the mill in the short term.

Soma Gold has also received a new underground haul truck, initially ordered to support the expansion of the Cordero mine. In April, Soma Gold used TOMRA Mining's sensor-based sorting technology to enhance mineral material processing capacity at its El Bagre mine site in Colombia.
