Hyundai Steel Industry announced on the 16th that it has completed the groundbreaking ceremony for an offshore wind power dedicated finishing yard and large lifting equipment at its Yulchon plant within the Gwangyang Bay Free Economic Zone. This facility construction is in response to the trend of larger-scale offshore wind power projects globally. The company has invested approximately 400 billion won, including this facility, and plans to invest an additional 100 billion won or more to secure a rear port as a shipping base.

The offshore wind power dedicated finishing yard consists of two buildings, each 55 meters high and 50 meters wide, equipped with dehumidification and ventilation systems, designed to enable stable production regardless of weather conditions. The lifting equipment, completed simultaneously, stands 96 meters high and 50 meters wide, capable of lifting up to 1,200-ton structures, doubling its lifting capacity from the original 600 tons. The company expects this enhancement to improve the manufacturing efficiency of 15MW-class offshore wind power substructures.

Based on this production base, Hyundai Steel Industry plans to undertake the manufacturing of substructures worth approximately 610 billion won in the "Shinan Uirye Offshore Wind Power" project, South Korea's largest offshore wind power complex with a total project cost of 3.4 trillion won. Lee Cheong-hyu, the company's representative director, stated that this facility construction is a strategic investment to secure a competitive edge in the next-generation offshore wind power market, and the company will strengthen its global order competitiveness based on production capacity and quality competitiveness.
