en.Wedoany.com Reported - The joint venture between OQ Alternative Energies (OQAE), a subsidiary of OQ Group, and France's TotalEnergies announced that the North Oman Solar project has successfully achieved back-energization, marking a transition of the photovoltaic power plant toward the commercial operation phase.
The plant is a 105 MW utility-scale photovoltaic station built in Saih Nihada within the Block 6 concession area of Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). Once connected to the grid, the project will supply clean electricity to PDO's oil and gas operations as part of its decarbonization efforts. Sami al Mazidi, Executive Director (Renewable Energy Projects) of the joint venture, stated that back-energization marks the transition of the project from the construction phase to the final stage of commissioning and operation, a result reflecting the collective execution strength of the team and the coordination among all parties. The North Oman Solar project is one of the Rawafid projects delivered by the OQAE-TotalEnergies joint venture on behalf of PDO, which also includes the under-construction Riyah-1 and Riyah-2 wind farms with a total installed capacity of 234 MW, located at PDO's Amin and West Nimr oil fields, respectively. Almoatasem Al Ismaili, OQ Alternative Energies Project Manager and Deputy Director of Riyah 1 & 2 Wind and North Oman Solar projects, noted that the successful back-energization is a significant step toward the Commercial Operation Date (COD). Niraj Pandiya, TotalEnergies' Project Director for Renewable Energy in the Middle East and Africa, stated that this achievement demonstrates the collaborative capability of the two sponsors, marking the first renewable energy project energized by both parties in Oman, with expectations for more successful projects in the future. The North Oman Solar project is scheduled to commence commercial operation in the second quarter of 2026, while the two wind farms are planned to start operations in the fourth quarter of 2026. OQAE holds a 51% stake in the joint venture, with TotalEnergies holding the remaining 49%.
