Wedoany.com Report-Oct 29 , GE Vernova has secured a contract to supply its 9HA.01 gas turbine for YTL PowerSeraya’s new 600MW hydrogen-capable combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant in Singapore.

The CCGT project is being developed at the Pulau Seraya Power Station (PSPS) on Jurong Island by a consortium that includes GE Vernova, Powerchina, and SEPCOIII. Construction on the project began last week.

The consortium will oversee the project’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC). The hydrogen-capable power plant, which is slated to be completed by 31 December 2027, is estimated to cost S$800m ($604.14m).

According to YTL PowerSeraya, the CCGT plant will have the capacity to power around 864,000 four-room Housing and Development Board (HDB) flats upon its completion. The new facility will mark a significant step in supporting Singapore’s transition to a greener energy future.

Furthermore, the project aligns with Singapore’s National Hydrogen Strategy, which aims for low-carbon hydrogen to address up to 50% of the country’s electricity needs by 2050.

The CCGT plant is expected to diversify Singapore’s energy mix, complementing solar, imported electricity, and other low-carbon energy sources.

YTL PowerSeraya Group CEO John Ng said: “Our collaboration with GE Vernova on the 600MW hydrogen-capable CCGT project marks a significant milestone in Singapore’s journey toward a more sustainable energy future.

“This collaboration leverages the strengths of both companies — GE Vernova is a global leader in hydrogen and gas turbine technology, and we are committed to pioneering lower GHG emissions, more efficient energy in Singapore.”

In addition to the 9HA.01 gas turbine, the CCGT power project will feature an STF-A650 steam turbine, a W88 generator, and a triple pressure with reheat heat recovery steam generator (HRSG).

The 9HA.01 gas turbine, equipped with GE Vernova’s DLN2.6e combustion system, is engineered to burn high hydrogen volumes without diluent. It is also capable of burning up to 50% by volume of hydrogen blended with natural gas.

GE Vernova gas power Asia president and CEO Ramesh Singaram said: “We are pleased that YTL PowerSeraya selected our H-Class technology aiming to deliver highly efficient power generation that can emit less carbon when blended with hydrogen.

“We look forward to teaming with SEPCOIII and POWERCHINA to bring lower-carbon power generation to Singapore, in alignment with Singapore’s commitment to achieve a net-zero economy by 2050.”

Earlier this year, GE Vernova secured contracts from SEPCOIII to supply gas turbines for the Taiba 1 and Qassim 1 power plants in Saudi Arabia. The two plants, with a combined capacity of up to 3.8GW, are being developed by a consortium of Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) and ACWA Power.
