en.Wedoany.com Reported - XLSmart is expanding its 5G network coverage in Kalimantan. As of June 2026, the company has operated over 300 5G base stations in Balikpapan and Banjarmasin, while its mobile services have covered 55 cities and regencies in Kalimantan, supported by more than 27,000 base stations.

The company announced this network enhancement in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, on June 26, 2026. This move is part of XLSmart's strategy to provide high-speed data services and accelerate digital transformation across sectors such as communities, businesses, and public services.

Sarroso Dwi Panggah, Head of XLSmart's Kalimantan Regional Group, stated that network infrastructure development is one of the company's priorities for improving customer experience quality. He believes that expanding network coverage is not only about broadening service areas but also about providing faster, more stable, and more reliable connectivity to support Kalimantan's digital economy growth.

With increasing demand for digital connectivity, Kalimantan has become one of the key regions for XLSmart's network development. After the government designated Kalimantan Island as the location for the Nusantara Capital (Ibu Kota Nusantara, or IKN), the region's strategic importance has further increased, expected to become Indonesia's new government center and economic zone. The construction of IKN has driven the need for stronger digital infrastructure to support the implementation of smart city concepts. In this context, high-speed telecommunications networks are considered a crucial foundation for digital services, government activities, business, and community development in the region.

According to company data, the network integration following XLSmart's establishment has also improved service coverage in Kalimantan. Currently, customers in 55 cities and regencies can access broader coverage services than before. In addition to expanding the 4G network, the company has accelerated the deployment of 5G services in major cities. The over 300 5G base stations already operating in Balikpapan and Banjarmasin aim to provide higher data access speeds, lower latency, and more stable connections. These features support various digital activities such as online communication, video services, digital learning, and production and business operations.

The strengthening of network infrastructure is also reflected in the growth of data service consumption in Kalimantan. XLSmart records show that data traffic from April to May 2026 increased by more than 12% compared to the previous period. The company attributes this growth to increased use of digital services, particularly video-based and social media applications such as TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram, which are increasingly dominating users' daily activities.

In conjunction with the network expansion, XLSmart has launched the XL ULTRA 5G+ package, designed to enhance user experience in 5G coverage areas. This package offers large data quotas, international roaming services, calls to all operators, and access to digital entertainment services. The XL ULTRA 5G+ comes in four options: a 65GB package priced at IDR 100,000, a 150GB package at IDR 150,000, a 300GB package at IDR 200,000, and a maximum 600GB package at IDR 300,000. All packages are valid for 28 days and include roaming data in nine countries, call services to all operators, unlimited calls among XL, AXIS, and Smartfren users, and access to Vidio Platinum or Disney+.

Nationally, network development in Kalimantan is part of XLSmart's broader infrastructure investment. Currently, the company operates over 253,000 base stations across Indonesia, the majority of which are 4G base stations along with thousands of 5G base stations, supported by a fiber optic backbone network. This infrastructure serves more than 69 million customers across Indonesia. Going forward, XLSmart stated that it will continue to invest in Kalimantan's network by increasing capacity, expanding service coverage, and developing 5G networks in more locations. This initiative aligns with the company's commitment to providing more balanced digital connectivity and supporting the growing needs of communities and businesses.
