en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Andalusian Public Port Agency (APPA) has issued a tender to invest €1.95 million (approximately $2.21 million) in upgrading the breakwater system at Punta Umbría Port in Huelva, southern Spain. Commissioned by the Regional Ministry of Public Works, Spatial Planning and Housing, the project primarily aims to improve protection for the marina basin and will involve modifications to the breakwater system surrounding the Punta Umbría marina.
The site currently faces significant exposure issues, affected by strong tidal currents, water level fluctuations, and continuous wake energy generated by vessel traffic in the main navigation channel. The existing breakwater system consists of three sections, including a 300-meter front section, a 48-meter northwest section, and a 12-meter southeast section, relying on 12-meter-long floating modules secured by 5-ton anchors. Under APPA's new plan, these modules will be replaced with upgraded components to suit local hydrodynamic conditions, while driven steel piles will replace the current anchoring system.
Construction and installation work is expected to take eight months after the contract is awarded. Acting Regional Development Minister Rocío Díaz stated that this investment will "continue advancing the modernization process of fishing facilities and improve conditions for both the fishing and leisure sectors." Interested bidders can submit applications through the regional government's online procurement platform by August 28.
