en.Wedoany.com Reported - Shanghai Mobile has built China's first commercial 5G-A super uplink network with over 1,000 base stations, achieving full coverage in core urban areas and key business districts. This is the largest city-level 5G-A network in China. With the accelerated development of large models and computing power technologies, services such as AIGC and AI search impose higher requirements on network uplink rates and latency. The deployment of this infrastructure provides validation for supporting real-time interaction of massive data in the AI era.

At the Shanghai Library East Branch, the practical application effects of this network were demonstrated. An indoor coverage solution based on 5G-A 3CC (three-carrier aggregation) and distributed MIMO technology significantly optimized uplink network performance at cell edges, achieving seamless indoor-outdoor extension of high uplink capacity. In live demonstrations, users achieved high-definition, lag-free live video transmission over the 5G-A network using the "Portable WiFi X" terminal, which supports uplink 4T transmission and high-gain antennas. In an oracle bone script recognition experience, the AI agent under the 5G-A network responded quickly and accurately, contrasting sharply with the sluggish and error-prone results under ordinary network conditions. An embodied robot connected to a cloud-based large model via the 5G-A high-uplink network, gaining instant response and interaction capabilities, while AI glasses users could also instantly receive precise explanations of ancient scripts from the cloud-based large model.

A technical lead from Shanghai Mobile stated that to address the explosive growth trend of uplink traffic in the AI era, Shanghai Mobile has completed three pioneering tasks: being the first to complete full-network, full-volume 4.9GHz band time slot adjustments, the first to complete full frequency clearance of the 4G A-band within the outer ring road, and the first to complete F/A SUL testing and commercial deployment. Through the integrated application of technologies such as supplementary uplink, Shanghai Mobile's 5G base station density and 4.9GHz base station scale both rank first in China.

Han Juke, Vice President of the China Communications Industry Association, stated that current urban traffic demands have shifted from "downlink-centric" to "balanced uplink and downlink," with an increasingly urgent need to ensure a stable uplink of 10Mbps. By leveraging band-coordinated super uplink technology, operators have effectively unblocked the "main artery" for uplink. Shanghai Mobile's advanced construction of the 5G-A super uplink network has achieved a critical leap from the laboratory to large-scale commercial deployment, creating a closed loop of computing-network integration encompassing terminal-side collection, uplink transmission, and computing power processing. This provides stable high uplink bandwidth for scenarios such as drones and smart manufacturing, enhancing Shanghai's industrial appeal as an international digital hub.

Global communications industry analyst Ma Bo believes that the completion of the 5G-A super uplink network is not only an upgrade of communication base stations but also a catalyst for urban digital twins, ubiquitous AI applications, and the deep development of the industrial internet. Data from the China Internet Information Center shows that China will build 500,000 5G-A base stations in the next five years, with 6G expected to be commercially deployed by 2030, projected to drive a total output of approximately 7 trillion yuan across the upstream and downstream sectors and boost GDP growth by 1.5 percentage points.

In the capital market, computing power and 5G-A construction have become relatively certain investment themes. Driven by high overseas market sentiment and the demand from AI application deployment in China, investment in operator computing networks is expected to maintain high growth in 2026. The entire industry chain has been fully activated. During MWC Shanghai, Huawei and the three major operators released achievements in areas such as 5G-A high uplink and experience management, and AI-driven business revitalization, accelerating the upgrade of operators' commercial value. Listed companies like CICT Mobile Communication Technology Co., Ltd. have launched substantial private placement plans to invest in space-ground integrated projects. Wang Haoyu, CEO of Mai Rui Asset Management Co., Ltd., stated that the layout of new-generation communication infrastructure, such as 5G-A high-uplink networks, by industry chain enterprises not only addresses pain points like live streaming lag and AI sluggishness but also lays a solid foundation for the development of multiple industries, including embodied intelligence, the low-altitude economy, and intelligent transportation.
