Japan's MODEC Sends FPSO Operating in Brazil for 17 Years to Denmark for Recycling and Dismantling

en.Wedoany.com Reported - June 30 news, Japan's MODEC Inc. has confirmed that a floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel has arrived at a ship recycling facility in Denmark after completing its operations at an oil field off the coast of Brazil.

The FPSO Cidade de Niterói MV18, owned and operated by the MODEC Group, departed from Brazil on May 8, 2026, after completing the required decommissioning mobilization activities at the Marlim Leste field in the Campos Basin, and has now arrived at a ship recycling facility in Denmark.

The Japanese giant was responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) turnkey project for this FPSO, which was chartered by Petrobras for the Marlim Leste development project.

Since first oil production in February 2009, MODEC subsequently provided approximately 17 years of leasing and operations & maintenance (O&M) services, processing a cumulative total of approximately 159 million barrels of oil. The lease contract for this FPSO expired in May 2026.

This FPSO is scheduled to undergo ship recycling at a facility in Denmark in accordance with relevant regulations, including the EU Ship Recycling Regulation and the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships. The vessel has a processing capacity of 100,000 barrels of crude oil and 124 million standard cubic feet of natural gas per day, with a crude oil storage capacity of 1.6 million barrels.

MODEC is committed to reducing emissions in its operations, such as its collaboration with Eld Energy to develop a 1.2-megawatt power system integrated with carbon capture for FPSO applications.
