Wedoany.com Report-Apr. 12, ScottishPower Renewables has engaged HSM Offshore Energy for an EPCIC (engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning) contract to develop the offshore substation and jacket foundation for the 960-megawatt (MW) East Anglia 2 wind farm. Positioned off the Suffolk coast in the southern North Sea, the project includes a 5,100-metric-ton high-voltage substation and a 3,700-metric-ton jacket foundation, both to be supplied by HSM Offshore Energy.

Engineering efforts kicked off in summer 2024 under an early work agreement. Construction is slated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025, with the jacket foundation installation planned for the third quarter of 2027 and the substation topside following in late 2027. Hans Leerdam, chief commercial officer at HSM Offshore Energy, commented: “This contract represents a significant milestone for HSM Offshore Energy and underscores our position as a trusted partner in the offshore wind industry. The proactive approach taken by ScottishPower Renewables to reserve yard capacity early demonstrates the value of collaboration and forward-thinking in driving the energy transition.”

Ross Ovens, managing director for offshore at ScottishPower Renewables, added: “It’s fantastic to be working with HSM Offshore Energy to bring our £4 billion East Anglia TWO windfarm to life and produce more homegrown green generation for the UK. This contract is a great example of the innovative and forward-thinking approach we took to securing quality supply chain partners for the project at the earliest opportunity.” The partnership highlights a strategic effort to ensure timely progress on this major renewable energy initiative.

Located approximately 33 kilometers off Southwold and 37 kilometers from Lowestoft, the East Anglia 2 wind farm will generate 960 MW of power once completed, enough to supply nearly one million homes. This development strengthens the UK’s renewable energy capacity, with HSM Offshore Energy’s expertise ensuring the substation and foundation meet the project’s needs. The timeline, spanning from initial engineering in 2024 to installation in 2027, reflects careful planning to deliver clean energy efficiently.

The collaboration between ScottishPower Renewables and HSM Offshore Energy exemplifies a shared commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions. By securing key components early, the East Anglia 2 project is well-positioned to contribute significantly to the UK’s energy landscape, powering homes with locally produced renewable energy.
