This is the first renewable energy virtual power purchase agreement for data centers under Malaysia's "Corporate Green Power Program."

The solar facility, developed by ib vogt, feeds electricity into the Malaysian grid under a long-term agreement linked to AirTrunk's electricity consumption in Malaysia. The project sits at the intersection of two rapidly growing sectors: data centers and renewable energy. As power demand rises, cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure operators are seeking more low-carbon electricity supply, while governments are looking for private sector investment to expand renewable energy generation.

Malaysia's "Corporate Green Power Program" aims to add new renewable energy supply to the national system through corporate procurement arrangements. Under this agreement, AirTrunk receives the renewable energy attributes of the solar project, while the electricity itself is delivered to the grid. AirTrunk operates data centers in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East regions, serving cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and other data-intensive customers. This project is part of its goal to match 100% of its data center platform's electricity consumption with renewable energy by 2030.

For ib vogt, this project expands its work in Malaysia and the broader Asia-Pacific region. Its regional team has grown since 2015 and now employs approximately 180 people across markets including Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, South Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam.

As technology groups and infrastructure operators expand capacity in Southeast Asia, the link between renewable energy generation and data center consumption becomes more prominent. Facilities supporting cloud services and AI systems require large, stable electricity supplies, putting pressure on grids and companies' decarbonization plans. Operators are exploring long-term procurement structures such as power purchase agreements and virtual power purchase agreements, which help support new renewable energy projects while allowing large power users to align some of their consumption with renewable energy generation.

Malaysia has been working to attract digital infrastructure investment while increasing the share of clean energy in its energy mix. This project supports both goals by linking new solar generation with the energy needs of a major data center operator.

The 29.99 MWac project is now commercially operational, serving as one of the early cases of large digital infrastructure users leveraging Malaysia's green power program.
