en.Wedoany.com Reported - SiTime has completed the acquisition of Renesas Electronics' timing business, a deal initially announced in February 2026. The acquisition significantly expands its semiconductor timing product portfolio and strengthens its position in the AI infrastructure, communications, industrial, and automotive markets.

The acquisition integrates Renesas' clock product portfolio into SiTime's existing MEMS-based timing technology, expanding the company's clock product portfolio by approximately tenfold and bringing in over 10,000 customers. Approximately 75% of the acquired business serves AI data centers and communications applications, with the remainder coming from industrial and automotive markets. The business has historically achieved gross margins of around 70% and is expected to contribute at least $300 million in revenue within the first 12 months post-acquisition. SiTime stated that this transaction accelerates its long-term goal of reaching $1 billion in annual revenue.

The two companies also plan to deepen strategic collaboration beyond the acquisition. Under a memorandum of understanding signed concurrently with the original transaction announcement, Renesas and SiTime will explore integrating SiTime's MEMS resonator technology into future Renesas embedded computing products. Renesas CEO Hidetoshi Shibata is expected to join SiTime's board of directors, further strengthening the partnership between the two semiconductor companies.

SiTime Chairman and CEO Rajesh Vashist stated that acquiring Renesas' timing business is a milestone achievement that will fundamentally transform SiTime. The company is accelerating its path toward $1 billion in revenue, expanding its clock product portfolio tenfold, increasing its presence in the high-growth AI data center market, and elevating gross margins to the high end of its target range.

Precision timing has become an increasingly critical component in AI infrastructure, as next-generation GPU clusters require tightly synchronized clocks across high-speed networks, PCIe architectures, memory subsystems, and coherent optical interconnects. By combining SiTime's MEMS-based timing technology with Renesas' clock product portfolio, the company expands its addressable market from oscillators to complete timing solutions for AI servers, switches, storage systems, and communications equipment. This acquisition also reflects the broader trend of specialization within the semiconductor industry. Renesas continues to focus its investments on embedded processing, power management, automotive, and intelligent edge platforms, while SiTime emerges as a pure-play precision timing supplier with an expanded product portfolio. As AI infrastructure deployment accelerates, timing solutions are becoming increasingly strategic.
