en.Wedoany.com Reported - Danish maritime equipment supplier Svanehoj has secured its first contract to provide LNG tank gauging systems for the conversion of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier into a floating storage unit (FSU).

The company will deliver four sets of LNG density and temperature (LTD) gauging systems to Drydocks World Dubai for the conversion of the LNG carrier LNG Bayelsa into the FSU Cap Lopez.

The conversion project, carried out for Dixstone Lower Gulf FZCO, is part of a floating LNG development project to expand offshore natural gas infrastructure in Gabon. The FSU will support offshore gas storage and export, helping to reduce gas flaring and increase production capacity.

Svanehoj's gauging systems will replace the vessel's existing float-type level gauges, enabling continuous monitoring of LNG density and gas composition. Real-time data is fed into rollover prediction software, which detects tank stratification and potential rollover events, thereby enhancing operational safety.

The Cap Lopez conversion is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2027, reflecting growing industry interest in converting existing LNG carriers into floating offshore infrastructure.

Fabrice Vandewalle, LNG/Cryogenic Sales Manager at Svanehoj France, stated that this is the company's first supply of LTD gauging systems for an LNGC-to-FSU conversion project, supporting its ambition to strengthen its presence in the offshore LNG infrastructure sector. In conversion projects, existing equipment is often inadequate, making advanced monitoring and safety systems essential for safe long-term operations.
