en.Wedoany.com Reported - Fife Council is developing new proposals for an Inverkeithing Leisure Centre to replace the existing pool facilities, and has allocated £19.1 million for the project.

The new facility aims to provide modern, accessible leisure opportunities for local residents and visitors, supporting health, wellbeing, and community use. Alan Paul, Head of Asset Services at Fife Council, stated that the council is committed to retaining a pool and leisure facilities in Inverkeithing, but there are two options for the centre's location, and the local community is invited to provide input.

The proposed new facility plans include a 25-metre, six-lane swimming pool, a fitness suite and studio space, wet and dry changing facilities, reception and administrative areas, a full-size artificial turf pitch, a Changing Places accessible toilet, and ancillary and circulation spaces. A public engagement exercise will be held in the coming weeks to determine the leisure centre's location. Option A is located on the west side of the existing Inverkeithing High School building, sharing the site with the existing primary school and nursery, with the same location and access as current community facilities. Option B is located on the east side of the existing Inverkeithing High School building, separate from the existing primary school and nursery, and may require new access arrangements. The consultation is available online, and paper copies can be requested by contacting louise.whyte@fife.gov.uk.

When the new Rosyth High School (replacing Inverkeithing High School) was approved, a commitment was made to retain the pool and some community facilities at The Wing until the new facility was built. However, a site inspection in November 2025 confirmed significant structural issues, with further damage occurring in June 2026. Fife Council stated that the estimated ongoing cost of keeping the facility open is £780,000 per year, and continued investment in the existing building may not represent the best value for public funds. As the existing facility is now closed, all swimming activities have been successfully relocated to other venues and can remain there until the new pool is completed. Community use services will continue at the new Caledonia High School when it opens in August 2026.
