en.Wedoany.com Reported - On June 30, the Yining-Aksu Railway in Xinjiang commenced full construction, with a total line length of approximately 798 kilometers, including about 460 kilometers of newly built main line.
The Yining-Aksu Railway is a single-track electrified railway for mixed passenger and freight traffic, designed for a speed of 160 km/h, with 22 stations. It will simultaneously implement the renovation of existing stations and the electrification upgrade of the Korla-Kuqa Railway, with a planned opening to traffic in December 2032. Upon completion, travel time between northern and southern Xinjiang will be reduced to about 8 hours, completely ending the historical need to detour through Turpan for travel between the two regions, thereby promoting high-quality economic and social development in Xinjiang.
The Yining-Aksu Railway is an important transportation artery connecting the northern and southern parts of the Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang. The project traverses complex terrain with a high bridge-tunnel ratio, posing significant construction challenges. Railway authorities stated that advanced construction techniques and equipment will be adopted to ensure project quality and progress. As a key component of Xinjiang's railway network, the Yining-Aksu Railway will effectively strengthen the regional railway framework upon completion, creating a direct link between northern and southern Xinjiang. Currently, Xinjiang's railway network is centered on Urumqi, covering major prefectures and cities, but railway connections between northern and southern Xinjiang still require a detour through Turpan, increasing transportation distance and time costs. After the Yining-Aksu Railway opens, it will significantly shorten railway transport distances between northern and southern Xinjiang, reduce logistics costs, and improve transportation efficiency.
