en.Wedoany.com Reported - Arcadis has been awarded a design contract by Public Services and Procurement Canada and Transport Canada to serve as the lead consultant for the Digby Ferry Terminal in Nova Scotia. The Amsterdam-based company won the bid to provide architectural design, interior design, landscape design, and engineering for a new ferry terminal to replace the existing facility. The new building will integrate the passenger terminal and ticket booth into a single structure, replacing two separate buildings constructed in the 1970s.
As a vital gateway for vehicles and passengers traveling between Digby, Nova Scotia, and Saint John, New Brunswick, the ferry terminal's design will support regional transportation, tourism, and economic activity. Within the existing site footprint, the two-story facility will accommodate terminal operations, including ticketing, waiting and arrival areas, and public restrooms, as well as terminal management services, encompassing intelligent transportation communication facilities and employee amenities.
Arcadis will design a resilient, passenger-centric ferry terminal adapted to the environment of the Bay of Fundy, incorporating measures to support reliable operations and enhance safety while maintaining service continuity during construction. Upon completion, the terminal will provide a more efficient, accessible, and intuitive experience for passengers and operations.
Neo Mahfouz, Practice Group Manager of Arcadis' Transportation Facilities and Marine Structures business unit, stated that Arcadis is pleased to expand its ferry terminal business in Canada through the revitalization of the Digby Ferry Terminal, aiming to deliver a modern, resilient, and efficient terminal that is accessible to all and improves the overall passenger experience.
This project builds on the company's global experience in marine and port infrastructure, including work at the Port of Calais in France and the DFDS Vlaardingen terminal in the Netherlands. This project expands Arcadis' transportation portfolio in Canada's Atlantic region, which currently includes design work for the Wrights Cove Transit Terminal in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, to support the bus rapid transit system.
