en.Wedoany.com Reported - FS has launched 800G OSFP and QSFP-DD ZR/ZR+ coherent optical modules, designed to meet the demand for high-capacity optical connectivity in AI scale-across architectures and data center interconnect (DCI). These pluggable modules utilize Marvell's 5nm digital signal processor (DSP), supporting 800G coherent transmission over single-mode fiber, with the 800ZR application reaching up to 120 km and ZR+ deployment up to 500 km.

The new modules emphasize interoperability, operational visibility, and deployment simplification, supporting C-band and L-band operations to enhance spectral efficiency. They comply with OSFP and QSFP-DD multi-source agreements (MSA) as well as 800ZR, OpenZR+, and OIF specifications, enabling multi-vendor interoperability and utilizing Open FEC to enhance transmission performance. The modules also support CMIS and C-CMIS management interfaces for real-time telemetry, alarm reporting, and operational monitoring.

As AI clusters become geographically distributed, coherent pluggable optical modules are gradually replacing traditional transponder-based systems in metro and regional interconnects, allowing operators to deploy higher-capacity optical links through standard switch and router interfaces. Kyrie Zhang, Senior Technical Director at FS, stated that the growth of AI and DCI traffic is driving demand for scalable, efficient optical transmission, and the company's 800G coherent modules aim to help customers simplify network expansion and scale network capacity more effectively.

The 800G coherent pluggable module market is accelerating as hyperscale cloud providers build AI clusters across multiple data center campuses. Operators are increasingly deploying coherent optical modules directly within Ethernet switches and routers to reduce costs, power consumption, and operational complexity in AI scale-across architectures. This announcement also reflects the broader industry adoption of standards-based coherent pluggable modules, with suppliers including Marvell, Cisco, Ciena, Coherent, Nokia, Infinera, and numerous optical module manufacturers continuing to expand support for 800ZR and OpenZR+, while the industry prepares for the next product cycle toward 1.6T coherent optical modules.
