en.Wedoany.com Reported - Shell is evaluating multiple prospective blocks in Kazakhstan and plans to conduct joint exploration with Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company, KazMunayGas (KMG). Ashat Khasenov, Chairman of the Board of KMG, and Peter Costello, President of Shell's Upstream business, recently met to discuss the current state of cooperation and future directions.
The meeting focused on cooperation within the frameworks of two major projects: the North Caspian (Severo-Kaspiysky) and Karachaganak (Karachaganaksky) projects. Regarding the development of the Kashagan field, the KMG head emphasized that partners need to concentrate resources on advancing Phase 2A and subsequent phases to ensure the project's long-term efficiency and sustainable development. On the Karachaganak project, the meeting confirmed the successful commissioning of the sixth gas reinjection compressor, which has an annual capacity of 4 billion cubic meters, and that all parties need to strengthen measures to ensure production reliability and stability. The two sides also discussed increasing the localization rate and raising the proportion of Kazakh experts in the leadership of Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V.
