en.Wedoany.com Reported - As DP World marks 13 years of operations in Brazil, it has announced a new investment of over BRL 2 billion for the expansion and modernization of the Santos port terminal. The company stated that the investment will increase container handling capacity from 1.4 million TEU to 1.7 million TEU by the end of 2026, and reach 2.1 million TEU by 2028.

The expansion project includes extending the terminal's quay length from 1,100 meters to 1,290 meters and receiving 8 new pieces of equipment, including 2 ship-to-shore cranes and 6 RTGs, expected to arrive in September. In 2026, the company will also introduce 15 electric internal transfer vehicles (ITVs) and 3 electric Reach Stackers, making it the first terminal in Santos to operate such equipment.

The operator estimates that the new electric ITVs can reduce carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions by more than 500 tons per year. From January to April this year, diesel consumption at the terminal decreased by 29.2% compared to the average level in 2024.

DP World is collaborating with Rumo and CHS to develop the Santos Multimodal Terminal (TMS), which focuses on grain and fertilizer transshipment, with an expected annual throughput of 12.5 million tons and planned to commence operations in 2029.
