en.Wedoany.com Reported - UK-based Kier has secured an Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) contract for Phase 1 of Southern Water's Hastings Resilience Programme, valued at over £30 million.

The contractor has also been awarded the Phase 1 ECI project for the Brighton East Nitrate Removal Scheme. Both projects are part of Southern Water's £3.1 billion AMP8 investment plan, aimed at improving network resilience, water quality, and environmental performance in East Sussex and Brighton.

The Hastings Resilience Programme aims to enhance the treatment performance, resilience, and supply security of the Hastings water supply network. At Brede Water Treatment Works, Kier will develop design solutions for upgrades to rapid gravity filters, high-lift pumping stations, clear water tanks, disinfection systems, and discharge infrastructure. During the ECI phase, the contractor will also advance resilience and discharge improvement works at Beauport Water Treatment Works.

At Brighton East Water Treatment Works, Kier will develop a nitrate removal solution through the construction of new treatment infrastructure, network reconfiguration, and upgrades to raw water conveyance and treatment processes associated with the Brighton East and Falmer supply networks.

Kier stated that it is currently collaborating with Southern Water on 31 ECI projects. The contractor added that these schemes have a total value of £104 million, and as they transition from ECI to main works, the associated construction value is expected to exceed £480 million.

Andy Lingham, Managing Director of Kier's Infrastructure Water division, said the latest contracts reflect the level of investment during the AMP8 period. He noted that the work involves critical operational infrastructure upgrades that will help improve resilience, treatment performance, and compliance across the network. Delivering these schemes requires close collaboration between operations, design, and delivery teams from the earliest stages of development to achieve the right long-term outcomes.
